The Cleveland Browns traded Baker Mayfield to the Carolina Panthers for a 2024 conditional fifth-round pick (which can become a fourth-round selection), according to a report.
Mayfield agreed to trim $3.5 million off his base salary to facilitate the trade, which will see the Browns pay the quarterback $10.5 million and Panthers roughly $5 million.
The deal is pending a physical on Thursday before becoming officially official.
Just because he helped work out the trade does not mean he is going to Carolina to be the starting quarterback.
Shortly after the announcement, it was reported that the starting job will have to be a battle between Mayfield and Darnold.

Mayfield has been seeking a trade after the Browns acquired Deshaun Watson from the Texans and gave him a fully guaranteed five-year, $230 million contract despite dozens of sexual misconduct accusations.
Mayfield, whom the Browns took No. 1 overall in 2018, said he felt “disrespected” by the franchise after the move.
Now, he gets another shot to start and show that the Browns made a mistake.
