While this might be good news to many, this is just another punch to the gut of New Orleans Saints fans, because it does nothing to correct the travesty that happened during the NFC Championship game.
On Sunday, thousands of Saints fans left Mercedez-Superdome extremely super pissed off after a missed pass interference changed the entire complexion of the game as the team would be forced to kick a field goal, instead of running the time down far enough to make it the game winner.
Less than 24 hours later and the NFL’s competition committee will consider making pass interference calls reviewable by instant replay when the league’s leaders discuss potential rule changes this offseason, as reported by Mark Maske of the Washington Post reported on Monday.
“It will be discussed at length along with additional fouls that coaches feel should be subject to review,” one person familiar with the league’s inner workings said Monday, speaking on the condition of anonymity because of the ongoing public furor over the botched call in New Orleans.
A high-ranking official with one NFL team confirmed that making pass interference reviewable will be considered, adding: “And there will be discussion on [replay] review of calls and non-calls.”
Any change would have to be approved by at least three-quarters of the 32 owners.
