Arizona Cardinals defensive back Josh Shaw has been suspended for the entire 2020 NFL season after the league determined that he was betting on NFL games. According to ESPN, the league claims they found no evidence that Shaw was using insider information or compromising the games. His teammates and coaches were also not aware that he had been gambling.
Shaw will be eligible to apply for reinstatement in February 2021. He was placed on injured reserve back in August.
Commissioner Roger Goodell released the following statement on the matter:
“The continued success of the NFL depends directly on each of us doing everything necessary to safeguard the integrity of the game and the reputations of all who participate in the league. At the core of this responsibility is the longstanding principle that betting on NFL games, or on any element of a game, puts at risk the integrity of the game, damages public confidence in the NFL, and is forbidden under all circumstances. If you work in the NFL in any capacity, you may not bet on NFL football.”
