Earlier today, it was announced that Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Calvin Ridley had been suspended for the duration of the 2022 NFL season for betting on games.
The investigation into the matter by the league found that Ridley had bet on games within a five-day period in November of 2021, while he was on the league’s “non-football illness” list as he dealt with his mental health. The investigation also claimed that Ridley didn’t use any insider information with betting on these games.
The latest news from the NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo, however, makes that last part about ‘not having insider information’ hard to believe, as it is now being reported that Ridley did in fact bet on Atlanta Falcons games.
It’s amazing to think that Ridley could bet on his own team’s game, yet there could be no “insider information” being used to his advantage. After all, who’s more of an “insider” than an actual player on the team?
Ridley knows his team’s playbook, strengths and weaknesses better than anybody. He may not have compromised the outcome of the game, because he didn’t take part in it, but you’d still think he has access to information regarding his own team that most gamblers could only dream of having.
