The 2025 NFL Draft doesn’t have a consensus clear-cut No. 1 prospect, but this much is clear: Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders are the two best quarterback prospects in the class.
In his lone season at Miami, Cam Ward completed 67.2 percent of pass attempts for 4,313 yards, 39 touchdowns and seven interceptions to go along with 204 rushing yards and four rushing scores.
Proving last season was no fluke, Shedeur Sanders had the best year of his collegiate career in 2024. Deion Sanders’ son completed 74 percent of pass attempts for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions with four rushing TDs.
According to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel, scouts and executives believe Cam Ward is the front-runner to go first overall in the 2025 NFL Draft:
“In a draft that projects to be defined by the Cam Ward vs. Shedeur Sanders debate for QB1, the building sentiment from scouts and executives this week was Ward is likely to be the No. 1 pick. This is more anecdotal than scientific, as neither passer was in town. But Ward’s versatility and ability to run stand out as a separating traits.”

The Tennessee Titans hold the No. 1 selection in the draft, though it’s not a guarantee that they’ll take a quarterback. Will Levis certainly won’t start again in 2025, but they could take a non-QB at No. 1 or even trade the top selection to the highest bidder.

The Cleveland Browns (No. 2), New York Giants (No. 3), New England Patriots (No. 4), and Jacksonville Jaguars (No. 5) round out the top five in the draft order. Cleveland and New York also need quarterbacks and could have their eyes set on Ward and Sanders.
Cam Ward Is A Fascinating QB Prospect
Ward isn’t exactly considered a sure thing to succeed like other recent highly-touted quarterbacks (Joe Burrow, Caleb Williams, etc.), but his skill set is impossible to overlook.
Dual-threat quarterbacks tend to be boom-or-bust prospects, but established NFL stars like Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen and Jayden Daniels have proven that the risks can carry significant rewards
