Onside kicks did not have a very good success rate since the National Football League changed its kickoff rules in 2018. However, things might be changing drastically and the NFL is seriously considering a major change to the rules that could actually make games even more interesting.
According to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, the league has received numerous proposals that would allow teams to go for it on 4th-and-15th from their 25-yard line.
If the team does not convert, then it will be a turnover on downs and the opposing team will get possession at the dead ball spot.
We’ve seen this in action already during the shortened 2019 AAF season.

The NFL also tried this at the 2020 Pro Bowl as well.
