A rebuilding NFC team has apparently made it known across the league that they want to move up for a quarterback in next month’s NFL Draft.
According to Connor Hughes of SNY, the New York Giants’ desire to move up and select a quarterback is “the worst kept secret” at the NFL Combine right now. Last year, the Giants handed Daniel Jones a four-year extension worth $160 million after a career year.
The Giants hold the No. 6 selection in the 2024 NFL Draft, but as Hughes pointed out, getting a quarterback there won’t be easy if three QBs are selected before them.
Assuming they stand pat, the Chicago Bears will most certainly take Caleb Williams with the first overall pick. If they end up trading that selection, the team that acquires the selection will likely take the USC signal-caller.
The Washington Commanders also feel like a safe bet to take a QB at No. 2, likely North Carolina’s Drake Maye or LSU’s Jayden Daniels. If the New England Patriots pass on a QB at No. 3, then the opportunity opens up for New York. The Arizona Cardinals are keeping Kyler Murray and won’t take a QB at No. 4. Nor will the Los Angeles Chargers at No. 5 with Justin Herbert in the fold.
Another option is for the Giants to use their No. 6 pick on a non-QB and trade up later for a second-tier QB prospect like Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy, Oregon’s Bo Nix or Washington’s Michael Penix Jr.

Bottom line, it doesn’t seem as though the Giants are fully sold on Jones as their long-term starting QB after another disappointing season in 2023.
