An interesting NFC club is reportedly interested in making a move for New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick, should he leave the AFC East organization in the coming days.
According to a report from CBS Sports NFL insider Josina Anderson, the Carolina Panthers have “made informal inquiries” regarding Belichick “at a high level.” Anderson added that Carolina’s division rivals, the Atlanta Falcons, have also thought about Belichick as a potential “fit”.
The Patriots finished a miserable 4-13 on the year, marking the franchise’s worst record since the 1992 group that went 2-14. Having missed out on the postseason for the third time in four years, many expect owner Robert Kraft to part ways with Belichick.
If that happens, there will be no shortage of interest in the greatest head coach of all-time. The Patriots could try to trade Belichick (though he’d have to agree to it), or outright let him go and put the legendary head coach on the open market.
Carolina fired head coach Frank Reich after a 1-10 start and promoted Chris Tabor to the interim position. But with the Panthers going just 1-5 under Tabor, it’s obvious that they’ll need to go big-game hunting for a new head coach.
The Falcons also need a new coach after firing Arthur Smith at midnight on Monday. The Falcons went 7-10 under Smith for the third straight year, ending his tenure with the club at 21-30.
