New York Jets fans have not been afforded the luxury of being able to take their eyes off of the news this offseason. The fan base just wants something to be excited about.
With the NFL’s wide receiver rumor mill continuing to spin at a feverish pace and the Jets still in great need of help at the position, it feels like the team just might make a blockbuster addition to the squad.
Seattle Seahawks wide receiver D.K. Metcalf is the latest star to come up in trade rumors. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported on Sunday that Metcalf’s name has been “buzzing in league circles in a big way.”
According to a report from ESPN NFL insider Rich Cimini, the Jets seem primed and ready to pounce on the Pro Bowl wide receiver.
“The hot names are the Seattle Seahawks’ DK Metcalf and the Tennessee Titans’ A.J. Brown, both of whom have only one year left on their rookie contracts and are up for mega-extensions. The receiver market has exploded in recent weeks, prompting Seahawks GM John Schneider to express sticker shock. The Jets’ Twitter pounced on that, fueling its visions of Metcalf in green (meaning the Jets’ color, not money, although the latter would certainly apply).”
At last week’s annual NFL owners meetings in Florida, Jets general manager Joe Douglas told reporters, “If the opportunity is right and the price is right, we’re going to strike.”
Adding a dynamic WR in Metcalf could prove to be everything for QB Zach Wilson, who is coming off his rookie campaign where he completed just 55.6-percent of his passes for 2,334 yards and nine touchdowns with 11 interceptions.
