One of the San Francisco 49ers’ cornerstone players could be on the move this offseason if the two sides cannot reach an agreement on a new deal.
According to a report from ESPN’s Dan Graziano, star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is “a trade candidate if” the defending NFC Champions fail to get a contract extension done with the 2020 first-round pick:
“The 49ers would like to get Brandon Aiyuk’s contract extended, but he’s also a trade candidate if they can’t get something done.”
The 49ers picked up the fifth-year option on Aiyuk’s rookie contract, so he has just one season remaining on his deal. The soon-to-be 26-year-old is coming off a career year in which he tallied 75 receptions for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns.
Aiyuk’s efforts helped the 49ers to the NFC’s top seed and a trip to Super Bowl 58, where they dropped a heartbreaker in overtime to Patrick Mahomes’ Kansas City Chiefs. In three playoff games, Aiyuk had nine receptions for 149 yards and one touchdown.
For his career, Brandon Aiyuk has 269 receptions for 3,931 yards and 25 touchdowns.
