Usually when a coveted free agent gets set to hit the market, a bunch of teams get their best stuff ready to take their best shot to sign that player and change the direction of their franchise.
The most coveted free agent after the 2019 NFL season won’t be a player, but a television analyst.
According to a report, CBS and Tony Romo are not having an easy time coming to terms on another contract.
Per Michael McCarthy:
Romo’s original three-year deal with CBS expires after this season. That’s raising the possibility Romo will table negotiations to avoid distractions, play out his rookie contract, then hit the open market in 2020.
During CBS’ NFL preview day, Romo declined to address his contract negotiations except to tell Front Office Sports: “I love football. I love working for CBS. I love the fact that I get to be an analyst doing football games.”
CBS does have the right to match competing offers for its star analyst, and because people love Romo so much as an analyst, they’d be willing to pay just about anything to keep him aboard.
