There’s a good chance that Jacksonville Jaguars has played his final snap for the 2024 season, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Trevor Lawrence suffered a concussion after taking a vicious hit to the head from Houston Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair in the second quarter of Sunday’s game. Al-Shaair was ejected for the careless hit on Lawrence, who had given himself up by sliding toward the first down marker.
Lawrence had to be carted off the field and did not return. Last night, the fourth-year signal-caller revealed on X/Twitter that he’s doing fine, but it sounds like he may not return to the field this season.
Speaking on the latest edition of “The Pat McAfee Show,” Schefter reports that it’d be a surprise if Trevor Lawrence returned to the field this season, citing his concussion and shoulder injury:
“They’re 2-10. He’s been dealing with a left shoulder injury. He’s now got the concussion. I would say, frankly, in my opinion, I’d be surprised if we see Trevor Lawrence play again this season. Like, why are we putting him out there? To me, it’s time to rest him up and start getting him ready for 2025. He was dealing with a shoulder injury that he was playing through that was hard enough to be out there now you get this massive blow to his head where he has to be carted off.
Why are we going to put him back out there at 2-10? Like, what are we doing? Yeah, he’s extraordinarily tough, and he plays through everything but somebody needs to tell him in his best interest: ‘You shouldn’t be playing again this season.’”

The Jaguars are in the running for the first overall pick, sharing football’s worst record with the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders (2-10). The New England Patriots (10 losses) have three wins and are headed into a Week 14 bye.
The 2024 season has been an absolute disaster in Jacksonville. The Jags were expected to compete for the AFC South crown after finishing with back-to-back winning seasons, but they’ll be lucky to top four wins at this point.
Jaguars Should Shut Trevor Lawrence Down For Season
As Schefter noted, the Jaguars have no reason to put their $275 million quarterback out there with the season lost. Lawrence is dealing with two serious injuries right now, and putting him on the field just increases the chances of further damaging his body.
Jacksonville just has to focus on getting Lawrence healthy and regrouping for next season. Surely, head coach Doug Pederson won’t be retained after another disappointing season, and the front office must improve the offensive line and supporting cast around T-Law.
