On Monday morning, Mike Florio dropped some crazy news that the Miami Dolphins had plans for shooting for the stars this offseason. Florio reported for Pro Football Talk Miami wanted to try to steal Sean Payton away from New Orleans and then possibly bring Tom Brady into the mix as well.
“Per multiple sources, and as first revealed on Monday’s PFT Live, the Dolphins planned to pursue Sean Payton to be the coach and Tom Brady to be the starting quarterback. The plan was scrapped after Brian Flores filed his lawsuit against the NFL generally and the Dolphins, Giants, and Broncos specifically.
Team sources who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issues confirmed that the team contacted the Saints to seek permission to speak to Payton.”
Team sources say the Saints declined the request, which would have been the first step in potentially bringing Payton to Miami. Payton is currently exploring options to work in TV after stepping away from coaching. Brady has since retired from the game, but many expect him to make a return.
For his career, Payton has led the Saints to a record of 152-89, which includes nine playoff appearances and one Super Bowl title in 2009.
After fnally retiring at the age of 44, Brady ended his career (we think) with 84,520 career passing yards, 624 touchdowns, 7,263 completions — all of which are currently NFL records — and 203 interceptions. He led the league in passing yards four times and touchdowns five times — including both this past season, piling up 5,316 yards and 43 touchdowns for the Buccaneers.
