The 2020 NFL Draft is just hours away and the Miami Dolphins are trying desperately to make a major move. Going into the 2019 season, the team was expected to suck really bad, but they played well enough that it got them the No. 5 pick.
That doesn’t mean the team has given up on trying to get higher. It was reported earlier today that the franchise has inquired about the possibility of trading with the Cincinnati Bengals for the No. 1 draft pick, possibly in an attempt to get Joe Burrow.
Per Jason La Canfora, the Dolphins are concerned with Tua’s injury history, and aren’t thrilled with Herbert as a prospect.
Although the Bengals have rebuffed every attempt from the Dolphins to get the pick, ProFootballTalk‘s Mike Florio reported that Miami is attempting to trade for the Detroit Lions’ No. 3 pick without giving up No. 5, in an effort to then make a “Godfather offer” to the Bengals for the top spot.

“The Dolphins aren’t trying to get the third overall pick from the Lions without giving up the fifth overall pick in order to make two picks in the top five. Instead, the Dolphins believe that a potential Godfather offer to the Bengals for the first overall pick would be even harder to refuse if the Dolphins offer both No. 3 and No. 5 as part of the package.”
The Dolphins also have a league-high 14 total selections in this draft, but even that doesn’t seem enough for the Bengals to pass on the shot of taking LSU quarterback Joe Burrow with the first pick Thursday.
The Dolphins high picks include the No. 5, No. 18 and No. 26 overall picks in the first round. The Dolphins will also draft with the seventh (No. 39 overall) and 24th (No. 56 overall) picks of the second round.
Let the games begin!
The first round of the 2020 NFL Draft begins tonight at 8 p.m. ET.
