The Los Angeles Rams were able to acquire Matthew Stafford in a trade that sent Jared Goff to the Detroit Lions. Just days after that mega trade, it appears other players are eager to join the team because of the new quarterback.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, there were multiple players who texted Stafford after the news of his trade broke in hopes to join him on the Rams.
Stafford lacks a ton of accolades when it comes to playoff performances and just simply getting there, but that comes with playing on the Lions for twelve years. Even still, he is seen as one of the most talented quarterbacks in the entire league. Not to mention, there is a huge difference from wanting to live and play in Detroit as opposed to living and playing in Los Angeles.
Among the players who texted Stafford about joining the Rams is Marvin Jones Jr., who has spent the past five seasons playing alongside him in Detroit. Also, Jones was born in Los Angeles.
Jones is set to become a free agent this offseason and he may be willing to take less money for the chance to play with Stafford again.
The team will need to do some financial gymnastics to add any more players, but if 2021 becomes a Super Bowl or bust year, they will do whatever it takes to make things happen.
