Less than two weeks after the team signed quarterback Trevor Lawrence to a massive $275 million extension, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ fanbase received even more good news on Tuesday.
For over a decade now, the Jacksonville Jaguars have been the subject of possible relocation rumors. London, England has been widely floated as a possible destination for the AFC South club.
But all those relocation rumors can now be put to rest. Per ESPN’s Michael DiRocco, Jacksonville City Council voted in favor of a massive $1.4 billion price tag for renovations on EverBank Stadium:
“The Jacksonville City Council voted 14-1 Tuesday night to approve an agreement between the Jaguars and the city on a $1.4 billion renovation of EverBank Stadium.
That brings the Jaguars one step closer to securing the long-term stability of the franchise, with the final hurdle getting the agreement approved by 24 of the NFL’s 32 owners at the league’s meetings in October in Atlanta.”
As DiRocco noted, 24 of 32 NFL team owners must approve of the agreement. The plan would be for the EverBank Stadium renovations to be completed by 2028.
The Jaguars, who are owned by Shad Khan, will pay for $625 million of the $1.4 billion renovation costs, per DiRocco. Jacksonville has played its games at EverBank Stadium since their inception in 1995.

Though it’s not even 30 years old, EverBank Stadium is the seventh-oldest active NFL Stadium. Only Soldier Field (Chicago Bears, opened in 1924), Lambeau Field (Green Bay Packers, 1957), Arrowhead Stadium (Kansas City Chiefs, 1972), Highmark Stadium (Buffalo Bills, 1973), Caesars SuperDome (New Orleans Saints, 1975), and Hard Rock Stadium (Miami Dolphins, 1987) are older.
The Bears are working on getting a brand new lakefront stadium, while the Bills are set to move into a new home (currently called New Highmark Stadium) in 2026.
A Thrilling Month For The Jacksonville Jaguars
It has sure been a wonderful month of June for Jacksonville Jaguars fans.
After locking up the franchise quarterback long-term, the Jaguars received a major boost to ensure the team stays in Duval County. The never-ending relocation rumors and talks will finally end once NFL owners approve the $1.4 billion stadium renovations.
Jacksonville will open their 2024 season with a road tilt against Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins on Sept. 8.
