The Las Vegas Raiders are yet to give Derek Carr permission to hold trade discussions with other teams, despite their desire to move on from the quarterback.
Carr’s $32.9 million base contract, as well as $7.5 million of his salary for 2024, will become fully guaranteed if he’s still with the team on February 15. Due to this, there’s lots of speculation in regards to the Raiders sorting the QB’s future before then.
Carr will have to sign off on whatever trade is proposed but, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, he hasn’t been in any trade conversations as the Raiders haven’t allowed him to speak to any other teams regarding a potential move.
Discussions of that nature would likely include contract adjustments. But, given that there are still several teams looking to sign head coaches and/or offensive coordinators, complications abound.
The Senior Bowl on February 4 could hand Raiders general manager Dave Ziegler an opportunity to discuss trade possibilities as there will be multiple GMs all in the same spot. But we’ll just have to wait and see how things pan out on the trade front.
Meanwhile, the Vegas-based franchise is reported to be among teams hoping to land Tom Brady following their decision to part with Carr.
