Kliff Kingsbury might not be a free agent (again) for very long.
Earlier this week, it was reported that the Las Vegas Raiders were hiring the former Arizona Cardinals and Texas Tech Raiders’ head coach for their offensive coordinator vacancy. In a surprise move, however, Kingsbury decided to back out of talks with the AFC West team.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the 44-year-old is now “a leading candidate” for the Washington Commanders’ offensive coordinator position. On Thursday, the Commanders hired Dan Quinn as their new head coach.
Kingsbury spent the 2023 season as an offensive analyst for the USC Trojans under head coach Lincoln Riley. As head coach of the Cardinals (2019 to 2022), Kingsbury compiled a 28-37-1 record and guided the longtime struggling NFC West club to a rare playoff appearance in 2021.
Quinn replaces Ron Rivera, who was on the job in DC for four years, as Washington’s head coach.
