Melvin Ingram visited the Chiefs in March, but the defending AFC champions passed on signing him. Months later, the veteran edge rusher is back on Kansas City’s radar for numerous reasons on both sides.
Mentioned as a team monitoring Ingram, the Chiefs have now made an offer for the 10th-year pass rusher, NFL.com’s Aditi Kinkhabwala reports.
Kinkhabwala added that the Steelers do not want to send Ingram to a team in the conference.
Ingram is reportedly frustrated with his lack of playing time in Pittsburgh.
“The longtime Chargers veteran landed in Pittsburgh this year and has yet to hit his stride. With inconsistent playing time, teams have begun calling the Steelers about potentially trading for Ingram, and it does appear the Steelers have listened and engaged. Due the balance of just $1.075 million in base salary (the team paid $2.925 million in a signing bonus), Ingram isn’t expensive. The Chiefs have been among those on the hunt around the league for a pass rusher, and they did host Ingram on a visit before he signed,” Rapoport reports.
Kansas City’s defense has taken a significant step back this season as they currently rank 28th in total defense and last in sacks, having registered just eight. Chris Jones and Frank Clark played together for the first time since Week 2 and yet the Tennessee Titans still blew them out.

Ingram has one sack and six quarterback hits on his 2021 resume so far this year. A change of scenery is in need for the former first-round pick.
Ingram made three straight Pro Bowls from 2017-19 and recorded 43 sacks from 2015-19.
The NFL’s trade deadline is set for Nov. 2.
