Back in February, it was the shock that rocked the sports world when it was announced that the NFL had reached a financial settlement with quarterback Colin Kaepernick and Carolina Panthers safety Eric Reid.
Kaepernick was first to file a lawsuit against the league that alleged the owners were colluding to keep him and Eric Reid out of the NFL because of their stance during the National Anthem.
As far as the settlement went, everything was kept confidential, but not for too long.
On Thursday, it was reported that Kaepernick and Reid settled for less than $10M, according to Andrew Beaton of the Wall Street Journal. That is far less than the speculated numbers that came out following the initial report.
Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman reported after the settlement was reached that some teams thought Kaepernick would receive as much as $80 million.
It’s unclear how the settlement will be divided and how much the players will receive after legal fees, according to Beaton.
