Things in Washington continue to go from bad to worse.
The team drafted quarterback Dwayne Haskins during the 2019 NFL Draft, but there is widespread sense that Gruden never signed off on that move.
Les Carpenter of Washington Post, citing a person with knowledge of Redskins HC Jay Gruden’s thinking, reports that he did not want the team to draft him the first place. That would explain why he was hesitant to ever put him in a game until last week where he wasn’t ready and played terribly.
His source also told him that Haskins has pretty much sensed that he wasn’t Gruden’s choice at quarterback. Despite how Gruden feels about Haskins, other Redskins coaches were reportedly excited about their rookie quarterback.
After the team’s latest loss to a division rival , Redskins owner Dan Synder reportedly “stormed out of New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium following the Redskins’ loss to the Giants.”
“You just got to make the most of every opportunity. … This is my first year in the NFL and I have plenty more to go, and it’s just one steppingstone,” Haskins said.
Haskins was selected by the Redskins with the No. 14 overall pick and has completed 9 of 17 pass attempts for 107 yards and three interceptions. He also rushed for 23 yards.
