Urban Meyer is not only fired, but he will not be receiving anymore money.
Adam Schefter reported that the Jaguars fired the former head coach for cause and with the intention of not paying him the remaining four years of his contract. Sources within the organization told them that the front office is withholding the remaining guarantees for mutliple reasons.
“A source within the organization said the Jaguars’ reasons for withholding the remaining guarantees are not tied to one specific incident — but rather a cumulation of instances that Jacksonville’s officials believe justified the firing,” the report said.
The report from ESPN’s Jeff Darlington noted that the two sides could come to a later agreement, rather than launching a long legal battle.
“It is not unusual for situations like these — involving negated guarantees — to later be negotiated by the two sides in order to avoid a prolonged legal situation,” he said.
Meyer only lasted 13 games before owner Shad Khan would be forced to part ways with him and his multiple controversies that culminated in a story of Meyer kicking their former kicker Josh Lambo in the leg.
