Throughout the 2019 season, Freddie Kitchens has looked overmatched, unprepared, and just downright horrendous as a head coach for the Browns, but it is extremely rare for a coach to be fired after just one season.
Sitting at 2-6, if things don’t get better for the Browns — Kitchens might see himself on the outside looking in. Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report was told by multiple NFL team officials that there is an “increasing belief” Kitchens could be fired before the end of the season.
If the Browns decided against letting him go during the season, the consensus is that Kitchens will be dismissed after Week 17.
Baker Mayfield seemed to thrive under Kitchens in 2018 when he was the offensive coordinator, but there is a huge difference between being the OC and head coach.
Despite their numerous weapons, the Browns rank 25th in the NFL with just 19.0 points scored per game and Kitchens doesn’t seem willing to relinquish play-calling duties that might ultimately cost him his job.
That seems to be a risk he is willing to take.
