At least three teams have moved one step closer to securing the rights to Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.
According to ESPN’s Dianna Russini, the New Orleans Saints, Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers have all presented the Texans with a trade package for Watson. And Houston’s front office has apparently signed off on each of them, which is why those three teams were allowed to proceed with their meetings with the 26-year-old superstar quarterback.
Earlier in the day, it was reported by the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that those three teams, along with the Atlanta Falcons, were the only teams believed to be in the running for Watson at this point.
Among the four teams, it was believed that the Saints were the frontrunners, as they appear to be the most attractive destination for Watson right now. Not only do they have enough assets to offer Houston, but they also offer Watson the chance to play on a team that is ready to win now and has elite weapons on offense — like Michael Thomas and Alvin Kamara.
