A professional football team north of the border seems to have interest in former NFL star wide receiver Chase Claypool.
According to TSN’s Farhan Lalji, the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League (CFL) have added Chase Claypool to their negotiation list. Lalji emphasized that a deal between the two sides isn’t close, and that several NFL clubs remain “interested” in him the former Pittsburgh Steelers star.
A second-round pick of the Steelers in 2020, Claypool is coming off a forgettable 2023 season that was split with the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins. In 12 total game appearances (only two starts), Claypool caught eight passes for 77 yards and a touchdown.
Claypool looked poised for future stardom during his first two seasons with the Steelers. He exceeded the 50-catch and 800-yard marks in 2020 and 2021, helping Pittsburgh to postseason appearances both years.

Chase Claypool had his best season in 2020, racking up 62 receptions for 873 yards and nine touchdowns. That was enough to help Pittsburgh win its first division title in three years, though they fell to the Cleveland Browns in the Wild Card Round.

A trade to the Bears ahead of the 2022 deadline did nothing to help Claypool continue his stellar production, however. He suited up for seven games with Chicago that year, tallying only 14 catches for 140 yards and no touchdowns.
Chase Claypool Can Still Produce Somewhere
Claypool was hardly used by the Bears and Dolphins, and he especially stood little chance of producing on a Miami team with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle as its top two receivers.
As we saw during his two and a half seasons in Pittsburgh, Claypool can very much be an impact player in the right system. Whether it’s the NFL or CFL, the British Columbia native will soon receive another opportunity to revive his career.
