The Atlanta Falcons are the latest NFL team to suddenly have a void at the quarterback position. But they may already have a plan in place to fill it.
The Falcons just finished trading longtime franchise QB Matt Ryan to the Indianapolis Colts for a third-round pick.
Apparently, Falcons head coach Arthur Smith has a familiar face in mind to replace Ryan, as reports indicate that the team is pursuing former Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota. Of course, Mariota was the quarterback in the Music City when the Arthur Smith was also there as the offensive coordinator.
The Falcons lost out on Watson just days ago, after it seemed like they were the front-runners for his services. From Watson to Mariota may be a big drop-off, talent wise, but at least the team won’t have to deal with the P.R. mess that the Browns are currently embroiled in after trading for a quarterback with 22 pending sexual assault lawsuits hanging in the balance.
