ESPN might be down but not out.
Over the past few months, the Worldwide leader in sports swung and missed on signing two retired quarterbacks for their Monday Night Football crew. First, Tony Romo signed a huge deal to keep his talents back at CBS and then Peyton Manning turned them down yet again.
They elected to not sit on their hands, but rather go out and find another beloved QB who will retire soon.
Outkick the Coverage is reporting that ESPN has made a big offer to New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees that will remain on the table whenever he retires.
“Outkick has learned ESPN has made an eight figure offer to current New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees to become the network’s Monday Night Football lead analyst. Brees’ ascendance to the Monday Night Football booth would begin as soon as he retires from the NFL.
The 41 year old quarterback debated retirement this off-season before electing to return for at least one more year. Brees, who presently makes $25 million a year this year and is also on track to make $25 million next year, recently donated $5 million to Louisiana charities. He’s a beloved figure in the NFL and there is a nearly universal belief among television executives that he would be fantastic in the broadcast booth.”
Brees has spoke about retiring during the Pro Bowl, but ultimately signed a two-year, $50 million deal earlier this month to give himself another shot to possibly capture another Super Bowl.
Brees is very likable and can talk with the best of them. ESPN desperately needs to land him.
