Baker Mayfield is still a quarterback for the Cleveland Browns and it very well remain that way even after the team traded for Deshaun Watson.
Per NFL insider Josina Anderson, the Browns plan on taking their time with the Baker Mayfield situation and if they’re not able to trade him, he could very well find himself on the roster and playing games at the beginning of the year should Watson be suspended by the NFL.
“While anything can happen my understanding is the #Browns currently plan a patient approach w/ Baker Mayfield’s situation,” Anderson reports.
“It’s also entirely possible they enter the regular season with Mayfield still on the roster & in position to suit up pending Deshaun Watson’s playing status.
“I wouldn’t really get into that type of speculation. But the reality of it is, quarterbacks are valuable,” general manager Andrew Berry said via Browns reporter Zac Jackson. “Baker is a good player and you can’t have enough good players on your roster. We’ve already planned to make it work and we’ll just see how the next few weeks go, the next few months.”

The Browns situation is similar to how the 49ers are handling their situation with Jimmy Garoppolo.
Right now, it appears the Browns are content with having both Deshaun Watson and Baker Mayfield on the roster when the 2022 season begins. It’s a good problem to have if you’re the Browns, but not so much for Baker as he was hoping to move on from the franchise.
