The Eagles could always use a franchise tag on Jalen Hurts after next season, which would cost them around $35M. Or they could avoid all of that and sign him to an extension.
Hurts has catapulted himself into big money extension talk with his tremendous start to the 2022 season. He has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Month and Hurts has been arguably the most valuable player in the NFL.
According to a rumored report, the Eagles are considering giving Hurts an extension that could be worth more than $50 million per season.
“The Eagles are having talks about a contract extension for QB Jalen Hurts that could potentially pay him over $50M per season,” the report states.
That report comes via Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Jalen Hurts currently has two years left on his rookie contract. The Philadelphia Eagles are now 9-1 and Jalen Hurts has proven that he belongs in the upper echelon of NFL quarterbacks.

During the offseason, the Arizona Cardinals gave Kyler Murray a five-year deal worth $230M while Russell Wilson was given a five-year deal worth $245M before even playing a snap for his new team. Both quarterbacks are dual-threat guys who will absolutely provide a benchmark for Jalen Hurts. Hurts could also demand something close to the $230 million Deshaun Watson got from the Cleveland Browns after he was traded to from the Houston Texans.
If Hurts continue to shine and puts the team in position to compete for a Super Bowl, it will be hard for the Eagles to not give him that money.
Jalen Hurts himself has looked dominant at times this year. He has thrown for 2,407 yards, 15 passing touchdowns, and three interceptions.
