The Miami Dolphins‘ decision to fire Brian Flores came as a shock to everybody except the many people who were close to him and likely knew a change would be coming.
Flores had just produced back-to-back winning seasons in South Florida, and while he didn’t have a playoff berth to show for it, it appeared the franchise was on its way to be good again. Reportedly, “relationships” were the major reason for Flores’ dismissal, particularly between him and quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and general manager Chris Grier.
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald added more to it when he cited sources that informed him of Flores basically being a menace to young players and not being able to relate to them.
“There were plenty of players who liked and admired Flores, and let’s be clear about that. But his arrogance and bristling personality rubbed some the wrong way. A close associate of multiple young Dolphins said the players complained to him that ‘he doesn’t understand dealing with men. He’s not approachable.’
When Flores saw one young player in recent months, he told him: ‘Don’t come to my office talking about playing time.’ The player had no such intentions. But multiple sources said he treated players different ways; a veteran such as Jason McCourty wouldn’t be treated with that same heavy hand. ‘He was stern with some but joked around with some guys,’ the source said. ‘It was hard to read him.’”
In the meantime, Flores already has another head coaching interview lined up. He is set to interview for the Chicago Bears head coaching job, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Tuesday.
As you know, the Bears fired coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace on Monday.

Flores earned a 24-25 record in three years in Miami, missing the playoffs each campaign. However, the Dolphins earned back-to-back winning seasons under the first-time head coach. Miami started the 2021 season 1-7, but finsihed 9-8 and almost made the playoffs.
