Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins is reportedly eyeing another fully guaranteed contract in 2024 NFL free agency.
According to a report from Charley Walters of the Pioneer Press, there’s “buzz” that the four-time Pro Bowler and soon-to-be 36-year-old is eyeing a two-year deal worth a whopping $90 million in free agency:
“The buzz now is that it will take $90 million guaranteed for two years, despite that he’s still not yet fully recovered from Achilles surgery in November, to sign free agent QB Kirk Cousins. If that’s the case, he certainly won’t get that from the Vikings.”
Cousins is far-and-away the top quarterback eligible to enter free agency this spring. The rest of the not-so-deep class includes Baker Mayfield (likely to be retained by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers), Ryan Tannehill, Jacoby Brissett, Joe Flacco and Gardner Minshew II.
In 2018, Cousins signed a three-year deal with the Vikings worth a fully guaranteed $84 million. Four years later, he was awarded a one-year extension worth a fully guaranteed and hefty $35 million.
Cousins was having another strong season for the Vikings before unfortunately suffering a season-ending Achilles tear against the Green Bay Packers in Week 8. “Captain Kirk” completed 69.5 percent of his passes for 2,331 yards, 18 touchdowns and only five interceptions before suffering the injury.
