The drama of this NFL offseason between Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals has not yet disappeared. All of the drama began after Murray removed all references to the franchise on his Instagram page, but it seemed like everything cooled down and both sides were headed to better times. But the showdown has continued with the news that the Cardinals have not yet made him a contract offer.
NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero reported the news, adding that Murray’s agent Erik Burkhardt pulled the quarterback’s initial offer off the table. Pelissero reports that it would be a “surprise” if Murray plays on the $5.5 million he’s owed next season.
If Murray does have intentions of not playing next season, it’s going to cost him a ton of cash.

“If he ultimately holds out, what will it cost? Per the CBA, he’d be fined $40,000 per day. Far more importantly, he’d lose the vast majority of his 2022 compensation — a 90-man roster bonus in the amount of $4.524 million — if he doesn’t report by the third day of training camp.
If he’s willing to forfeit $4.524 million by not showing up by the third day of camp, why not also give up his $765,000 salary and sit out the whole year? Well, doing so would result in the forfeiture of more than $5.8 million in paid but unearned signing bonus money.”
Murray, 24, was the first overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft and is entering his fourth season in the league. Murray is slated to enter the final year of his rookie contract, but the Cardinals can choose to exercise his fifth-year option.
