The San Francisco 49ers and Brandon Aiyuk recently reached a contract agreement, officially putting to rest one of the most high-profile “will they, won’t they” cases in the NFL, but the headlines aren’t done quite yet.
For months this past off-season, after a heartbreaking Super Bowl loss that the 49ers suffered at the hands of the dynastic Kansas City Chefs, fans weren’t sure whether they would see Aiyuk in San Fran in 2024.
However, that changed today as the 49ers signed the Pro Bowler to a massive 4-year, $120 million contract extension. It may be all fine and dandy now, but that wasn’t always the case, as proven by a speculated trade that the 49ers had in motion.
According to Dianna Russini, the Denver Broncos were among the many teams mentioned in the Aiyuk sweepstakes. As part of a three-team deal, they were offered a third-round pick from the 49ers.
Denver Broncos Declined A Brandon Aiyuk Trade
The third team involved in the trade would have been the top contender for Aiyuk in the Steeler as they would have received Aiyuk himself while San Francisco offered up a third-round pick in the action.

The Broncos declined the deal, as they don’t believe that Sutton is worth only a third-round pick, and rightfully so. The 28-year-old hauled 58 targets for 772 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2023.
Aiyuk, on the other hand, who the Broncos wouldn’t have gotten in the deal, had over 1,300 yards in 2023, adding seven receiving scores. The two receivers are slated to remain on their current teams in 2024, and both are in store for a big breakout season.
