A new report provides details on what the Chicago Bears could receive in a potential trade for quarterback Justin Fields.
The Bears are expected to trade Fields and use the first overall pick of 2024 (via the Carolina Panthers) on a quarterback, likely USC’s Caleb Williams. Chicago obtained Carolina’s 2024 first-round pick in last year’s trade for the No. 1 pick, which the Panthers used on Bryce Young.
ESPN’s Field Yates proposed several trade packages for Fields. Bears ESPN reporter Courtney Cronin then offered her take on each proposal.
Yates proposed a trade that would send Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers for 2024 second and fourth-round picks. This is where Cronin reported that league sources think this is the type of offer the Bears could receive for Fields:
“When gathering reporting on potential trade offers for Fields two months ago, several sources around the NFL suggested something similar to this Pittsburgh package. The Bears could fill their pick void in the second round and add a third fourth-rounder.”
Though Field pieced together a career year for the Bears in 2023, it simply makes too much sense for Chicago to trade him and acquire extra draft capital. Williams has been regarded by many as a a generational quarterback prospect, and the Bears would have the luxury of his services on a cheap rookie deal for four-five years.
