It seems like a little over 24 hours ago, there were at least a dozen teams in the running for Deshaun Watson. And now, there are two.
According to a report from Pro Football Network’s Aaron Wilson, the New Orleans Saints and the Carolina Panthers are the only two teams that the Houston Texans quarterback is set to meet with on Monday. Of course, Watson would have to sign off on any deal the Texans hope to strike, thanks to his no-trade clause.
It’s no surprise that his list of suitors have been narrowed down so quickly. It started when Tom Brady announced his return, crossing Tampa off the list. Not long after, the Vikings locked up Kirk Cousins long term. Then the Steelers opened up free agency by signing Mitch Trubisky as their next signal-caller.
As for teams the Colts and Seahawks, both of whom are still looking to fill a void at the quarterback position, the former is out of the running because the Texans won’t deal Watson within the division, while reports have indicated that Watson himself rejected a trade to Seattle.

It’s no surprise Watson has no interest in playing in the Pacific Northwest. The Seahawks look to be a franchise in flux, which is exactly what Deshaun is looking to avoid.
As for the two remaining teams, the Saints and Panthers, you’d have to think Watson would rather land with the former, as they’ve proven to be the much more competitive team between these two NFC South rivals. If that’s the case, it’ll all come down to whether or not the Saints are willing to give up enough to secure their new franchise quarterback.
