Denver Broncos star linebacker Alex Singleton played through a devastating season-ending injury in Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before learning that he won’t play again this year.
On Wednesday, Broncos head coach Sean Payton announced that Alex Singleton will be out for the rest of 2024 after suffering a torn ACL in the team’s 26-7 upset of the Bucs at Raymond James Stadium.
Per Aric DiLalla of the Broncos’ official team website, Payton said that Singleton suffered the ACL tear in the first quarter after Brandon Jones picked off Baker Mayfield. Incredibly, Singleton managed to finish the game before the tough injury news.
Alex Singleton finished the day as the Broncos’ lead tackler (10). The 30-year-old’s promising season ends with 31 tackles, an interception and a pass breakup. Singleton has one season remaining on the three-year, $18 million extension he signed last year.

Singleton spent his first three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles (2019 to 2021) before landing with the Broncos in 2022. He has 633 career combined tackles, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and four sacks.
Vance Joseph’s defense has been the Broncos’ biggest strength through three weeks. They have allowed the sixth-fewest points per game (allowing just 15.3 allowed per contest) and are No. 3 in total defense (259.3 yards allowed per game) behind only the Pittsburgh Steelers and Seattle Seahawks.
The Broncos will try and improve to 2-2 on the year when they visit Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.
Broncos Linebackers Must Step Up Without Alex Singleton
With Singleton out for the remainder of the season, Joseph and Payton need their other linebackers to step up and fill the gaping hole on defense. Cody Barton, Justin Strnad, Jonathon Cooper, Jonah Elliss and Drew Sanders must step up together and produce without the beloved veteran and fan favorite.
