It has been a rough last month for the Washington NFL team as they officially announced on Monday that the Redskins nickname and logo will no longer be used as the team embarks on a new journey.
Since the backlash surfaced on the team changing the name, trademark squatters have been securing a wide variety of potential names.
Martin McCaulay currently has secured (or tried to secure) the following names in recent years: Americans, Bravehearts, Federals, Forces, Founders, Gladiators, Monuments, Natives, Pandas, Pigskins, Red-Tailed Hawks, Renegades, Sharks, Veterans, Tribe, Redtails, Monuments Veterans, Renegades, Red-Tailed Hawks, Americans, and Red Wolves.
That is a huge issue because The Washington Post reported that Snyder’s “preferred” name is in a trademark battle and they actually wanted to announce the new name on Monday.
Unfortunately for Snyder, he isn’t going to get any sympathy after stubbornly stating he wouldn’t change the name for years.
It took major sponsors to threaten to leave and pull merchandise for the team to finally agree to that name change. Snyder has lost the battle and now he has to fight to get the name he wants.
