Daniel Jones has been demoted to the New York Giants third-string quarterback, having lost his starting spot to Tommy DeVito.
Reports from Monday morning noted the change to the Giants’ offense, with DeVito expected to make his first start in Week 12 following the team’s bye.
Head coach Brian Daboll has since revealed that Jones’ demotion won’t only put him behind DeVito, but Drew Lock as well.
“Daniel Jones has been demoted to third string quarterback, per Brian Daboll,” JPAFootball reported. “Drew Lock will be Tommy Devito’s backup.”

Daniel Jones has struggled in a Giants uniform this season, with the team 2-8 ahead of their 11th game of the campaign, completing 63.3 percent of his passing attempts for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

Daniel Jones Benching Also Financially Motivated
Jones is also 31st in the league in QBR, but financial factors have weighed into this decision.
The signal-caller has a $23 million injury guarantee that would come into play if he were to get hurt and fail an offseason physical. Benching him now would see the Giants avoid such an occurrence.
Daboll was also non-committal about the player’s long-term future in New York. The team appears keen on assessing other talent and keeping its salary cap at a manageable level by looking to DeVito instead of Lock, despite the latter being Jones’ backup all season.
