The Dallas Cowboys are going to be paying Dak Prescott a lot more then they originally thought with this year’s franchise tag. When they first hit the star QB with the exclusive franchise tag, it was originally reported as over $26 million, a placeholder before the official number was tabulated. That new number is now in.
On Tuesday, the recalculations came out to $31.409 million, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The QB exclusive tag number is reached simply by adding up the top five QB salaries and dividing that number by five. Prescott’s updated tag number puts his single-season pay into the top seven in the entire NFL in annual average salary.
Prescott reportedly wants a deal in the $35 million per year range, which would put him right there with Russell Wilson who signed a 4-year, $140 million contract with the Seahawks that included a record $65 million signing bonus and an average annual value of $35M.
Prescott is coming off the most productive season of his career with 4,902 passing yards and 30 touchdowns, leading the No. 1 offense in the NFL in total yards.
