The Dallas Cowboys finally made an official decision regarding Jason Garrett on Sunday when they parted ways with him as head coach, but them waiting to do so did not stop them from mentally moving on from him and thinking about the next head coach to take over the team and possibly turn them into a contender.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Cowboys are expected to gauge the interest of Oklahoma Sooners head coach Lincoln Riley to see if he is willing to make a jump from the college ranks to the pro ranks.
Riley’s name has come up several times for different teams as he is atop the list of top coaching candidates this offseason.
The 36-year-old coach has a 36-3 record in his three seasons leading Oklahoma’s football program and two of his quarterbacks have won the Heisman Trophy, with one of them, Baker Mayfield, being selected first overall in the NFL Draft.
