Just when you thought the Dallas Cowboys and Ezekiel Elliott would have a deal done over the weekend, things got bad again and they find themselves back at square one.
David Moore of the Dallas Morning News reported over the weekend that the Cowboys and Zeke still have “significant ground to cover” before an extension is in place.
Moore also stated Elliott’s representatives still appear to be targeting a contract that exceeds Todd Gurley‘s four-year, $57.5 million deal.
That seems to be the problem for the Cowboys front office, because a source told NFL Network’s Jane Slater that the Cowboys were speaking with Zeke late Sunday, but a deal is still “not close”.
She also stated the same thing that was holding it up last month is the reason why it hasn’t happened this month.
The 24-year-old is set to make a base salary of $3.85 million for the 2019 season and another $9.1 million in 2020 under the fifth-year option of his contract.
