The Cleveland Browns have seemingly done a lot to ensure they can get rid of Deshaun Watson so it doesn’t hurt their pockets.
Watson’s name is back in the spotlight, and once again, it has nothing to do with his performance on the football field.
Fox Sports insider Jay Glazer reported Sunday that the Browns “quietly” restructured Watson’s deal and didn’t include the same protections that were in his previous contract.
Browns removed a clause from starting quarterback Deshaun Watson’s contract over the offseason that would have protected him from a future suspension.
Per the report, if Watson is suspended again, Cleveland could retain the guaranteed money that he is owed for the remainder of the deal.
“If he has a suspension moving forward, there could be a chance they could go back and get some of those guarantees,” Glazer said.

The Browns traded for Watson two years ago despite the former Texans quarterback being sued in dozens of lawsuits alleging sexual misconduct or assault.
Since coming to Cleveland, Deshaun Watson has made just 13 starts and has not been anywhere near the quarterback he was in Houston.
Watson once led the league in passing yards when he played in Houston, but he’s no longer that quarterback.
Woman Suing Deshaun Watson Over Alleged Sexual Assault to Meet With NFL
A woman accusing Deshaun Watson of sexual assault may meet in the coming weeks with the NFL.
A civil lawsuit accuses him of sexual assault and battery.
Attorney Tony Buzbee, who represented two dozen other women in suits against Watson, said he has a video and two additional witnesses.
The woman, identified only as “Jane Doe,” said in the lawsuit that Watson “roughly sexually assaulted her for several minutes” while at her apartment before a dinner date.
