The Cleveland Browns are a changed franchise and all it took was a 7-9 season and a promising future from rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield.
During an appearance on Adam Schefter’s podcast, Cleveland Browns general manager John Dorsey revealed his team is considering acquiring a first-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. That is such huge news for a franchise that acquired WR Odell Beckham Jr. from the New York Giants last month.
For the first time in over ten years, the Browns won’t have a 1st-round pick, but that doesn’t mean they won’t try and get one.
After getting Odell, the team had to part ways with safety Jabrill Peppers as well as the 17th overall draft pick.
“Business as usual. That’s the way it is,” Dorsey told Schefter on his podcast when asked what it will be like not having a first-round selection. “Who’s to say I won’t go up in the first round?”
“Might we see something there?” Schefter pressed.
“You never know,” Dorsey replied. “My phone’s open. They can give me a call.”
Cleveland has had multiple first round picks in four of the past seven drafts, but if they want back into the first-round this season, they’ll likely have to part ways with some future first rounders.
The organization has eight selections in the 2019 NFL Draft, beginning with No. 49 overall.
