The Kansas City Chiefs reportedly eyed a blockbuster trade for another All-Pro wide receiver before acquiring Tennessee Titans star DeAndre Hopkins.
On Wednesday morning, news broke that the Chiefs acquired DeAndre Hopkins from the Titans in exchange for a conditional fifth-round draft pick that can be upgraded to a fourth-rounder.
Having lost top wideout Rashee Rice for the season with a knee injury, the Chiefs sorely needed WR help. They now have it with Hopkins, a consistent 1,000-yard receiver who will play an instrumental role in their push for a three-peat.
Interestingly, the defending Super Bowl champions reportedly eyed another big-named wide receiver before sealing the deal on a DeAndre Hopkins trade.
According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the Chiefs “discussed” a Cooper Kupp trade with the Los Angeles Rams. But Kansas City was unwilling to surrender early-round picks for Kupp, and they needed another team to seat some of the remaining dollars on Kupp’s deal.
Russini reported on Tuesday that the Rams have talked to teams about a potential Kupp trade, and that they’d like a second-round pick. But the price was too high for Kansas City, who got DeAndre Hopkins at a reasonable price.

The Chiefs are also without star wide receiver Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown for the regular season with a shoulder injury that required surgery. There’s hope that he’ll return for the postseason, but Patrick Mahomes and company at least have a valuable insurance weapon in Hopkins to help their three-peat bid.
DeAndre Hopkins Finally Gets To Chase A Ring
Hopkins spent seven seasons with a mediocre Houston Texans team that never got past the Divisional Round. He was with the Arizona Cardinals for three years and never got to experience a postseason win.
After putting up good numbers on a rebuilding Tennessee team, “Nuk” finally gets to pursue a Super Bowl with a bonafide contender in Kansas City.
