The last time we saw Rex Ryan on a football field, he was getting ready to be fired as head coach of the Buffalo Bills after two unsuccessful seasons with the franchise. Ryan posted a 15-16 record in his 31 games as the Bills head coach. His brother and Bills defensive coordinator, Rob Ryan, was also fired by the team. That was back in 2016.
Almost three years later and his name has come up once again for a position.
On Tuesday, the Kansas City Chiefs decided to move on from defensive coordinator Bob Sutton after the AFC Championship loss to the Patriots on Sunday.
Now there are some rumblings that the Chiefs might be interested in hiring Rex Ryan as their new defensive coordinator.
Ryan’s best years as a defensive coordinator clearly came when he was with the Baltimore Ravens as he lead that defense to be top 6 in the league in yards allowed all four years he was there.
If Ryan is hired and gets the Chiefs from dead last in defense to at least middle of the pack, the team would be virtually unstoppable.
