The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly eyeing a star pass-rusher ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline.
Kansas City is sitting atop the AFC West with a 5-2 record, one game ahead of the Los Angeles Chargers for the division lead. Though the Chiefs lead the NFL in points per game (31.9), their defense has greatly struggled up to this point, allowing 24.6 points per contest.
General manager Brett Veach already made one big trade earlier this week, acquiring 2021 first-rounder and wide receiver Kadarius Toney from the New York Giants.
Now, Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated is reporting that the Chiefs have “checked” in on one of the game’s top young passers in Jacksonville Jaguars star Josh Allen:
“The Rams have been looking for a pass rusher to replace the production they lost with Von Miller’s departure, have first-rounders in 2024 and ’25, and already made a substantial offer for Burns. The Chiefs have checked on the availability of Allen, and are similarly looking for another edge rusher, though they may be a little more reluctant to part with their 2023 first-rounder. The Titans are also in need of pass-rush help. Chubb would be a nice fit, but they’ve been more conservative with picks.”
The Jaguars drafted Allen seventh overall in 2019. The franchise has a long history of wasting top-10 selections, but Allen has turned out to be one of the organization’s best draft picks in recent memory.
The Kentucky product has three sacks and a pair of forced fumbles in seven game appearances. Allen’s best season to date came back in 2019, when he recorded 10.5 sacks and two forced fumbles as a rookie.

Jacksonville won two of their first three games, showing promise with blowout wins over the Indianapolis Colts and Los Angeles Chargers in Weeks 2 and 3, respectively. They have dropped each of their last four games, however, with all of them being decided by a single possession.
Even if the Jaguars defeat the Denver Broncos on Sunday (at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England), they’ll still be two games under .500. So one can expect the Jaguars to be among the most active sellers ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.
The Chiefs’ pass rush is led by superstar defensive tackle Chris Jones, who has who has five sacks in seven games. Adding a young talent like Allen would certainly bolster a defense that has struggled against elite offenses in the early going.
