If the Chicago Bears decide to trade the first overall pick in the upcoming draft for the second straight year, they reportedly stand to receive a giant haul.
Last year, the Bears traded the first overall pick to the Carolina Panthers, who used it on Alabama QB Bryce Young. As part of the return, the Bears received Carolina’s 2024 first-round pick, which is already guaranteed to be the No. 1 selection.
According to Jeremy Fowler and Courtney Cronin of ESPN, the Bears could get an “immense” haul in exchange for the top selection this year:
“If the Bears traded the first pick, the return could be immense. Several executives agree Chicago could net more than it did in the Panthers trade, and from a prospective trade partner already picking in the top five. Those execs believe the price to get to No. 1 could be two future first-rounders on top of this year’s pick, along with a variation of a Day 2 pick and/or a premium veteran player on a manageable contract.”
Carolina surrendered star wideout D.J. Moore, its 2023 first and second-round picks plus 2024 first and 2025 second-rounders to Chicago for the first overall pick. Young and C.J. Stroud, the consensus top two QBs in the 2023 NFL Draft, didn’t quite carry as much as hype as Caleb Williams — the projected No. 1 pick in 2024.
But seeing how awful the 2023 trade looks for Carolina after just one year, it’s easy to assume that opposing teams will be reluctant to give similar trade offers for the top pick this year.

That said, teams who give up a top-two pick to a QB-needy team almost always get at least two first-rounders. It’s safe to say that Chicago would be getting at least that much for a can’t-miss prospect like Williams, or even North Carolina’s Drake Maye.
