There were so many questions revolving around Carson Wentz upon his arrival to the Indianapolis Colts this past offseason in a blockbuster trade. The Colts made the decision to send the Philadelphia Eagles a 2021 3rd-round pick plus a 2022 1st-round pick in exchange for a quarterback many around the NFL believed was broken.
Well, things changed drastically towards the end of the 2021 regular season when Wentz failed to win 1 of the two final regular season agmes and missed the postseason altogether after looking like a team nobodyy wanted to see in the playoffs.
Now, NFL insider Chris Mortensen says Wentz will “‘probably” be traded or released before March 19th.
Colts GM Chris Ballard stated back in Janaury that the team would continue to evaluate quarterbacks.
“I don’t care who you have at the position at the time — I think every year, you’ve got to evaluate it in full, both free agents and the draft. I mean, it’s that important,” Ballard said, via Colts Audio Network. “And it’s one that we’ll exhaust each and every year and we do with our scouts and with our coaches.”
A year after reaching the playoffs with a 39-year-old Philip Rivers and taking the Buffalo Bills to the final possession, Wentz could only complete 58.9% of his passes for 333 yards with two touchdowns and an interception (80.6 rating) in the final two games of the year to get his team into the fight to play for a Super Bowl. He averaged just 170.6 yards per game in the second half of the season compared to 244.2 in the first half of the year. That extreme dropoff was concerning and the team paid for it dearly.
