It’s been than a month since the Carolina Panthers released Cam Newton from their roster and he still remains a free agent as the offseason continues to move on.
Teams have added quarterbacks either through free agency or the draft and it appears less likely Cam will get a starting job anywhere. However, the former NFL MVP is apparently unwilling to settle for anything less.
Joseph Person of The Athletic reports the 30-year-old is not interested in signing to be a backup for any team.
The only team might be a possible suitor is the Los Angeles Chargers, but they went and drafted Justin Herbert with the sixth overall pick and appear to be content entering the season with Tyrod Taylor as their starter.
The New England Patriots have shown little to no interest in wanting to bring in Newton, and even if they wanted to, they virtually no salary cap space.
It looks like Cam will indeed be waiting until a starter gets hurt for him to sign.
