We could be getting a Baker Mayfield trade any day now from the sound of it.
According to the latest report, we were actually about to see it all happen Sunday morning—until a surprise team stepped in and caused the Browns to back off for the time being.
No word on exactly what the Seahawks were prepared to give Cleveland for the disgruntled former first-overall pick. What we can tell you is that the “surprise team” is not the Carolina Panthers, who many believed would take a shot at Baker with Sam Darnold currently slated to be their starter for 2022.
The report goes on to state that the surprise team is likely one of four teams: The Detroit Lions, Arizona Cardinals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers or New Orleans Saints.
It should be noted that trade talks between the Seahawks and Browns are not dead. It’s still very likely that they emerge from all of this with a new quarterback. They just might have to work a little harder for it now.
Mayfield compiled a 29-30 record during his four seasons as the Browns’ quarterback. He brought the franchise the most success they’ve seen in decades, taking them to the playoffs in 2020 for the first time in 18 years.
